BOONVILLE BARN COLLECTIVE

overview

Visually distinctive and communicating and distinguishing a product line with subtle differences.

Boonville Barn Collective is a woman-owned farm that’s been producing unique chile powders since 2012. Their flagship product is their Piment d’Ville Chile flakes, their unique California version of the French Piment d’Espelette. Their company is small and fun, and their branding emphasizes the freshness and sourcing of their artisan, hyper-local products. In 2020, Boonville Barn Collective wanted to sell a box of 3 varieties of their Piment d’Ville pepper flakes. The box was Kraft colored, and they could only use one color printing on the box. They needed an opaque box design that identified the 3 varieties of pepper flakes in jars and how to use the peppers for new customers. They wanted a fun, casual feel, to encourage people to use their product frequently instead of saving it for specific occasions. Their product is unique and many consumers are not familiar with the pepper or how they could use it. The box design also had to be informative and instructional.

A comprehensive 6-sided package design, using hand-drawn fonts and illustrations reflects the fun, casual feel they wanted, while clearly informing the customer of box contents as well as culinary uses for these unique pepper flakes.
